SAVE OUR SCHOOL
maam,

i urge you to please save our school (st. stanislaus) and other heritage structures on hill road from the bmc. i see no benefit by this move as it will not ease traffic. the area is totally taken over by hawkers who are the real cause of the congestion, not to mention indiscriminate parking by shoppers. pls help us in saving the soul of bandra.

SOS Stanisclaus School
Dear Priya Dutt,

I am an ex-student of St Stanisclaus School Bandra. At the moment I am based in Delhi and a activist for TB/HIV. I have been receiving messages that a great deal of this school premises would be taken over by the Municipality for road development but at what cost. This school has not only excelled in academic but also in sports and depriving it of it grounds could denter the future of it's student in area it has excelled. I do hope you could come up with a better solution than destroying a heritage.

Thank You.

St. Stanislaus land setback
Respected Madam,
St. Stanislaus has been on Hill Road for over a hundred years now. It is indeed ridiculous that some so called town planner has now decided that Heritage structures have to give up part of their land -, which also include the graves of those buried therein in the name of widening of Hill Road. It does not take one to be a detective to realize that rampant corruption in the BMC has reduced even the widest of roads available in Mumbai to a dismal state. At least one would expect that the dead are not disturbed - is it not an Indian attitude to respect the dead ? I am sure, just reducing the Hawker's menace from Hill Road, (albeit at the cost of the BMC's perks being lost-in the form of their hafta!), would be equally effective in takling the traffic problem there ? Like all others related to Bandra and these Institutions, i humbly request you to intervene and prevent such absurd ideas from being implemented!

SAVE BANDRAS HERITAGE
Dear Ms Dutt,
I am a college student residing in bandra.I would like to express my views on the recent so called road widening plans of the BMC.The last time the BMC acquired the property of St josephs school in the name of road widening and the same was occupied by hawkers. The school had to forfeit the grounds which was used as a cemetry in the name of the general good of the public. But however it appears that the vested interests have prevailed.
Now in the present instance also, the church will have to give up its property and in the bargain will have to close down the library, lose the cemetry and valuable school playground land. The BMC should rather concentrate on freeing hill road of hawkers instead of demolishing heritage structures in the name of road widening.I am also refering to the parsi agiary which is also heritage.Development doesn't mean getting rid of old structures.
I'm sure you will agree with mine and fellow bandraiites point of view and use your good offices to prevent the desecration of heritage property in bandra.
Thanking you in anticipation,
Malaika

Takeover of St. Stanislaus Grounds
Dear Priya,

I am an ex-student of ST.STANISLAUS HIGH SCHOOL. And I would like to register my protest on the Takeover of St. Stanislaus Grounds by the municipality.

I firmly believe that widening roads will only increase traffic congestion & pollution. But rather your government should focus on getting vehicles off the road and promoting & enhancing the public transport network.

Please do not destroy our heritage.

Thanking You,

Nargis Dutt colony
Dear Priya Dutt
All of us are witness to the almost daily tragedies caused by people sleeping on the roads.
Another tragedy waiting to happen is in your colony at Bandra reclaimation. The BMC concreted this important road a few years ago but ever since more than half the road are being used by the people from your colony to cook, sleep and even do their ablutions on this road. Every so often little children run across the road.
Given the heavy traffic on this important arterial road please take action to stop these dangerous acts.

Save St. Stanislaus
Dear Priya,
I was appalled to hear of the intentions of the municipality regarding its 'road widening' efforts. Do let me know if you there is anyway in which i can assist in the implementation of any protest to save my school.
Thank you,

Road Widening?!
The fact that stanislaus is successful at so many sports at various levels, bringing pride to bandra has a direct relation to the space we trasured as playing grounds. Plus road maintanence would prove a better route tomanage traffic that widening it. If the people who live here do not want it then why would their representatives at the BMC want to pursue this?

Proposed Widening of Hill Road / Ramdas Nayak Marg
Dear Ms. Priya Dutt,

While we do welcome the initiative of the B. M. C. to improve roads in Mumbai / Bandra, we would also like to record the following

1. Hill Road has many bottlenecks on account of road encroachments by hawkers, if these were removed; it would definitely go toward easing out traffic.

2. St. Joseph's Convent on Hill Road released a portion of its land for Road widening. This released portion has not been used effectively, but has been is occupied by hawkers / encroachers

3. There used to be a laundry "Bambi" located opposite the Canara Bank on Hill Road, this building was demolished and totally re-erected anew in the guise of restoration. Today it is a major road block on a narrow portion of Hill Road (Trios/Ruff Kids). We wonder what the B. M. C. is proposing by way of road widening at this 'T' junction of Hill Road.

4. The road adjoining St. Stanislaus High School/St. Peter's Church is wide enough, however, there exists a bottle neck caused by the building on the opposite corner which houses an internet café, hairdresser and ATM, we do not understand the basis under which B. M. C. provided them permission, as they are much before the Road Line of the adjoining building.

5. The Road along St. Andrew’s Church is also sufficient for the smooth flow of traffic. However, here to the Road has been encroached by a shop selling provisions.

6. The Road adjoining Virendra on Hill Road is in excess of 65 feet and is not a Bottle Neck, however there a bottle neck in front of Patel Provision stores partly on account of encroachment and partly on account of illegal parking at all times.

While the B. M. C. is adamant and is moving eagerly to widen the Road, we do not understand traffic from a Ninety foot (90’) wide Hill Road will move into a Sixty foot (60’) S. V. Road , which is a main artery of the City

Please use your good offices to put a stop to this irrational Road Widening.

Thank You.

St. Stanislaus
Dear Priya,
I request you to do all you can to stop the road widening in Bandra at the expense of St. Stanislaus High School. Having studied in said school I cannot believe that the municipality would even think of such a heinous act. How can they ask a educational institution which is a non-profit organisation to give up their land. It is a horrendous act and must be stopped at all costs. Not only will the future students of the school suffer but Bandra will lose a part of itself. They are surely other avenues that the BMC can follow if they really wish to widen the roads. But St. Stanislaus cannot be one of them. I feel so bad that I am completely helpless in this matter. Hopefully not completely helpless now that I am writing this to you. I know my whole family votes for you and voted for your dad before you. Please Please heed this heartfelt request of an ex-Stanislite and citizen of Bandra and take up the cause with all you got. I see I am not the only one petioning this from you and I am confident that you already know the details of this issue. All I can say is that I do hope and pray that the school does not lose any land and that we can do something concrete about it. Thanks & God bless.

Road Widening
Dear Ms. Dutt,

It is unfortunate that modernization is costing our town so much. It is unfortunate enough that the quaint little suburb, well know for its pretty villas, seaside colonies, lush greenery and beautiful churches is being steadily infiltrated by sterile buildings and an ever increasing population. But the St Stanislaus grounds do not merely have aesthetic value,……. It’s a place where children can play after school rather than become slaves to computer games and television. It’s a place where young blossoming athletes can hone their skills, a place where there are communal get-togethers and community events, discussion forums and dances. Indeed, in a world where there is increasingly a lack of time and space, these grounds represent a place where neighbors can get together and grow together. It’s tragic that the grounds have to be sacrificed for road widening. Tragic, especially as there are other solutions to the problem, and as previous similar attempts have just resulted in the land being taken over by hawkers. It is clear from the responses this issue has generated that the citizens of Bandra do not want or need their suburb to become a hawker’s paradise, and that dealing with this issue first is the only definite means for finding a solution to the problem.

Save St. Stanislaus High School
Dear Ms. Priya,

I do understand that as a MLA you do have certain responsibilities towards the government. But would request you to reconsider the decision of reclaiming the land of St. Stanislaus High School for the purpose of widening the road. Believe me as a matter of fact, no matter how wide you make the road, the cars are going to fill it, so it does not matter.
Students of St. Stanislaus have reached great hights in almost all fields, be it sports, literature, computers etc... We love our school and do not want the grounds and the school to be taken over in pretext of road widening.
I think you yourself know, that you would be playing with emotions of thousands of people. There are better ways to smoothen the traffic flow on hill road and in Mumbai. The Big conulting companies would be able to help you out (in fact i am working in one of them). Let me know in case you require any assistance. But, please save my school.

Warm Regards,
